Consumers... Be ware of … too good to be true rule!
I received a letter from an unknown company claiming that I was the winner of some foreign lottery and won $250,000.00. The letter instructed me to use PIN # KW/PCA/2 call the Canadian phone number 1-647-717-7206 for more details. There was a check attached to the letter for $3,974.46 (to pay for Insurance, Handling and Shipping fees, in advance). I called the company and gave them the PIN #, and the representative asked for my name. I asked the representative why they did not know my name when they sent me the letter. He was adamant and rude so I hung up on him. The check was written from Packaging Corporation of America on a Northern Trust Company Bank, Oakbrook Terrace, IL Account # 071923828. I DID NOT DEPOSIT THE CHECK! I called Northern Trust Fraud department at 1-630-691-2200 and was informed that the check is fake and that there is a worldwide fraud lottery Scheme involving both corporations above. I was also informed that this scheme is so rampant that PCA is currently tracking all official checks written from the company in order to separate the fraudulent checks from its own official checks. I have since submitted the fake check to the FBI fraud unit and to PCA fraud department.
Obviously, one cannot win a lottery without knowingly participating... This scheme is just too good to be true!
