I hired Arik Ederi of Ederi Remodeling to install a full bathroom in my basement, to be completed in January. I paid $6,240 in January on my Discover Card.

The initial contract states that the bathroom will be completed in January. Mr. Ederi's workers stopped showing up after installing (wrongly) some plumbing and some electrical.

After 6 months, he finally had some guy come back and start installing ceramic floor — ALL WRONG too! The floor installation was started before the walls were in place and there were pieces of ceramic tile sticking up. Tiles were not glued down properly and had to be torn up completely. The new hired contractors stated that floors are the last item to be put in place and must be leveled with the proper glue adhesive. None of this was done.

Arik Ederi is in full violation of our Contract / Agreement.

For the first two weeks, two guys showed up and started on plumbing work. Then they stopped coming back. I kept calling and sending text messages. He would not respond and then eventually he would give me different excuses after my repeated phone calls:

? He said they were doing a job in Cincinnati.
? He said they were out partying during Cinco de Mayo weekend and couldn't make it on Monday after promising me the previous Friday they'd finish within a week, starting that next Monday.
? He said his buddy suddenly had a heart attack and was brain dead and he was consoling the family friend.
? He sent me a text that said he knew it was one thing after another, and that he was indeed planning to finish.
? I told him I had family coming in to stay with me in May and I needed the bathroom completed. He agreed that it would be done. He never showed up.
? I told him that I had family coming again in mid-June, and he once again agreed to have it all done. Never showed up.
? Finally, some guy came by and started to install ceramic flooring. He was there two days. Never came back after that. The floor was installed wrong and poorly. There were tiles that were sticking up and easily could be tripped over. He started the tiles at the wrong end of the room too. He laid tile before dry wall was installed, which is not correct. Drywall first, then tile last.
? Ederi company left messy piles of wood in the bathroom and there are also cement drippings on the floor in the other room next to the bathroom.
? One of his workers, Jeff, came by to pick up some equipment. He gave me his phone number and I have since talked with him about Arik. He said that Arik has a drinking problem and he sees him at BBR bar all the time. Jeff is a bouncer at BBR bar on Vine Street in Columbus and has been very responsive to my phone calls. Whenever I could not reach Arik, I called Jeff. Jeff said he has since stopped associating with Arik due to his misrepresenting me along with reading two other bad reviews on the Better Business Bureau website. Jeff said he was raised to be a hardworker and honest, and he would not treat people the way Arik is treating me.

I have since hired someone new to finish the bathroom. This carpenter reviewed the work done to date. He has been building homes for over 10 years with a reputable company. He said all the work was very shoddy and could have caused injury. He said serious injury could have happened in the shower with the way the electrical box was installed.

My new carpenter has since torn up all the framing and ceramic floor pieces plus the floor glue that needed to be meticulously chipped away using a rented tool from Home Depot. I also had to buy all new bathroom components at Home Depot. I've kept a file with all receipts.
