Miscellaneous

In the middle of May I purchased online a Nook HD so I could transfer PDF files from my computer but it did not work. Someone at (I thought) Microsoft Community suggested I go to a specific site. They had the
solution. I ended up on SpeedyPC Pro. They said they had the solution. Was it OK for them to remotely look at my computer to make the corrections. I gave permission. After starting I was told my computer had no virus protection. My Norton had expired. They could install Panda (I knew only that it was an acceptable program) for $250.00 one time fee without "pesky" recurring subscription charges. I agreed. The fee for checking my computer for viruses, etc. Since it may have been compromised since Norton had expired was $180.00. Based on the above I agreed but thought something was beginning to smell.

The next day I had a totally different home page. I think it was Galaxy. It has always been MSN. I changed my home page back to MSN and proceded with my work. I received multiple pop-ups throughout the day. Time for a little complaining but I could not find a phone number, e-mail or snail mail address. My only option was to send an e-mail on their e-mail page which gave me no options to copy or save my message. Anyway, I complained about the changes in my home page and the pop-up adds and that I wanted everything set back the way it had been. I also noticed an icon on my screen for shortcut to Panda remote technician. The pop-up adds stopped and there was no more messing with things that I detected but no response either.

A few days later SpeedyPC Pro scanned for potential files, apps, etc. That would slow down the performance of my computer—by now I learned that was their marketing priority and it had nothing to do with the PDF to Nook issue. But their was also in icon for Improve Speed PC which also ran a program with 500 errors needing to be fixed. I clicked on "continue" to see the problems and got a page to register my software to get the "Key" for fixes. Clicking there asked for $39.99, crossed out to $29.99, crossed out to $9.99 on a special ending that day (7-16). But at Paypal the invoice was for $39.99 (5).

In a second e-mail subject "I'm confused" I asked for explanation for the billing because I thought I had paid for everything. No response. Smell becoming odiforous! Three days later last date of sale became the date I was on site and same price reduction that was not a reduction at PayPal site. With continuous scanning by Speedy PC and Improve Speed and never agreeing, I sent a third e-mail stating I thought I was being scammed and asked for a specific person reply. Still waiting. Yesterday I went back to Norton and had them remove everything with the tiniest connection to "Speedy" and reinstall Norton for $139.99. Learned I had active paid Norton account.

Contacted credit card company this morning about fraud since nothing addressed the initial problem and their work did not "speed" my computer either. Then learned about additional $50.00 and $14.99 charges by SafeCart, 855-432-0727. This was the first time I heard of these charges and of SafeCart.
I initiated fraud complaint with credit card company and changed CC numbers but am also submitting complaint anywhere anyone can benefit from it such as here, BBB, state attorney general or any other suggested orgs.

Fraud and scam is written all over this one. Although I got hooked, I'm glad I deleted them as quickly as I did.

Funny thing: they have Norton security and Truste logos on their web site!
