Critters Exotic Pets is a Place You Shouldn't Go

Bought a sugar glider a little over a week ago. I specifically requested a baby since older sugar glides do not bond well with humans. After some friends with a sugar glider saw the one I bought, they told me it was not a baby. Mine has very long canine teeth, which they don't have until much later than a baby stage. She is also about 5 times larger than the friends 2-month old sugar glider. The pet shop has a no refunds policy, however since I didn't get what I had specifically asked for, I felt they should have returned my money. They wanted to swap mine for another one they had, which they said was a baby. They also tried to tell me it was a baby, they can be born with these long canines and babies could be that big. At this point, I did not trust them, so I didn't want to swap. My niece was with me and she stated to them that if they didn't give my money back, she would make complaints to the BBB, and The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, US Dept of Agriculture which oversees the importing of exotic pets. The woman at Critters immediately told us to get out or she would call the police. We didn't get out fast enough for her, so she called the police. We explained our side to them—it's a civil matter, so there is no "crime." However, the way the woman reacted makes me wonder—if they were selling me a baby and all the papers were in order, why was she so quick to call the police? She could easily have just shown us the papers that certified the age and proper registration of the animal.
