Backup camera issues

My backup camera had been working on and off for a year along with a skip in the engine while running; all before the 36k miles warranty went out. I called and reported it but was told nothing could be done if it was working properly while at the service center. My camera went out completely at 38 k and now I'm being told that it is not covered by warranty. I don't think this is a fair practice. I have severe arthritis & rely on the back up camera to eliminate some of the twist & turning I have to do to get out my garage. I am not able to afford the risk of having to pay to get the camera issue resolved. So I'm stuck with a non working camera one of the main reasons I chose this vehicle.
