Incorrect advice on parts

Purchased exhaust parts.
Was informed by salesperson that an adapter I needed would be suffice for installation. But after installing it was apparent that the advice was incorrect thus ruining the other components.

Customer service informed me that they are not responsible for bad advice; that I was the one that installed part thus my responsibliity.
They fail to realize that I installed parts that were presented to be sufficient for task.
I relied on their sale staff to provide me with professional advice.
