Miscellaneous

My wife and I filed a customer property claim for personal property damaged on 11 Nov. 2012. On that date we traveled to Louisville, KY from Austin, TX with a change of planes in Houston, TX.
When we arrived in Louisville, our garment bag was not there. We immediately filed a delayed baggage report #1544541. All we had were the clothes on our back.
The baggage arrived the next day damaged along with contents damaged as follows:
Garment bag torn open - beyond repair - $160
Gray men's pin stripe suit - holes torn - $220
Taupe men's trench coat - shredded - $150
Man's Florsheim shoes - crushed flat - $70
Woman's Naturalizer shoes - broken heel - $60
Womans's sport jacket - trim ripped off - $65
Calvin Klein perfume bottle broken - $35
Man's shaving kit contents - $20
Total of our claim is $780.
We contacted United Airlines in Houston where the damage occurred and filed a report (File Reference #SDF 10018A) for the above items and submitted it via fax in accordance with instructions on 19 Nov. 2012. Claim included photos of damaged articles.
As of today 31 Jan. 2013 we had not received a response. We called today and got the run around that we had to go to the airport and file on site. That we had to have all the damaged items for proof of damage at that time. We discarded the garment bag and had to borrow luggage to return to Austin on 13 Nov. 2012. When we originally filed our claim we were told that the claim would take about two months to process. As of now we seem to run out of options. No one at United Airlines will consider our claim in accordance with the original instructions we received.
