Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc
Digital Products Division Design Flaw causing All-In-One computer to fall forward and crack screen

Internet & Web

I purchased a Toshiba LX835-D3240 All-In One computer from Best Buy. During set-up I noticed that the middle leg that props the computer up on the desk was spring loaded to move toward the closed position.

The relevance of this design flaw did not become apparent to me until a slight jarring of the desk caused the computer to fall forward onto the keyboard and crack the display screen. This occurred because any pressure on the front support legs cause them to move back away from the user and the middle prop legs to spring toward closure. Once the screen reaches a near vertical position the slightest jarring will cause the entire computer/screen to fall forward.

When I contacted Best Buy they said they do not warranty physical damage unless a specific insurance policy was purchased within 60 days of purchase. My purchase was made 63 days previous.

When I contacted Toshiba they said their warranty did not cover physical damage under any circumstances. I explained the inherent flaw of the design of the spring loaded prop leg and they said my complaint was the only one ever received for this condition.

I want my computer repaired or replaced at no charge to me and a fix to prevent the prop leg from closing unintentionally.
