Said they wouldn't charge for early disconnect if I moved, they lied Chicago

I signed up for SBC DSL in Chicago in January. I asked them what happens if I move before their year-long contract expires. They said I'd bee charged an early termination fee of $200 unless I moved somewhere SBC cannot provide service.
Turns out, I wound up moving for a job after 9 months of pretty lousy DSL service. When I called to tell them, they said I "probably wouldn't be charged." I said I hope not, and the woman assured everything would be fine.
I got to North Carolina, where SBC has no service, and got a final bill for around $10. I thought, "Great, the kept their word." 6 weeks later I got a "revised final bill" which wanted me to pay for the early disconnect. I called several times and each time, the customer service rep refused to listen. "Supervisors" kept repeating that "that's the policy." I explained how I had been told that I wouldn't be charged — that was the policy, and the supervisors just said "they were wrong." I finally got a notice from a collection agency. Told them I was disputing the charges, haven't heard from them.
Finally, posing as a potential customer, I called 20 different SBC reps in Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, and Indiana just to see if I was crazy. They all said they same thing: "If we can't provide the service we won't charge you." or "We're not in business to make money off you for service we can't provide" or "We can't charge you for something we can't provide." — All actual quotes.
I called customer service back and did get one very sympathetic woman who was sorry for my having to go through this, but she said I had to call DSL. I did, got another supervisor, and related to her how 2o reps had said I shouldn't be charged and even that one had told me I should have been offered the option to buy out the rest of my contract. She grudgingly admitted I had done my research and said she forward the request to dispute resolution, or whoever deals with that. I got a cae ticket number and was told that I would be contacted within a month.
Never heard a thing. This August (I just received another notice from a collection agency — a different one I believe. I must now spend several more hours arguing with SBC.
Has anyone considered a class-action lawsuit?
