Best Buy
Computer Services Scam ripoff

Internet & Web

Be advised new computer buyers! If you purchase a new computer from ANY Best Buy location watch your step. They like to sell consumers "Tech Services" at your time of purchase that are just a plain rip. It involves what is called "System Customization" or so it's labeled on their national price sheet. For the total of $24.99 a technician will install "your desperately needed XP security patches", but there's one problem here. Most new computers are coming "out-of-the-box" with SP2 (Service Pack 2) already installed. Guess what? SP2 already includes these patches, which by the way were released a year ago.

Do they know this? Your darn skippy! As a CURRENT employee (Yes, that's right not some disgruntled former employee) I should know, I've even sent out an internal email on more then one instance and voiced my concern for this apparent oversight. I was quickly informed that maybe my goals "did not match that of Best Buy's", and if I wasn't happy with the way things were done I could leave.
