877-807-4709 Freedom Subscription and UniGuard Membership - Unauthorized Checking Account Deductions

10/5/09: Logged on to my bank and noticed strange, unauthorized charges to my checking account, two showed up as checks (which did not match any of my check numbers), so I was able to print them out. The first check was 'electronically' made out to "Freedom Subscription 1 (877) 807-4709" for the amount of $49.95 on 9/29. This one had an actual signature that I did not recognize.

The second was 'electronically' made out to "877-890-1250 UniGuard Membership" for the amount of $19.95 with no date.

I called the phone number on the first check (877-807-4709). They answered "customer service" without naming the company (thought that was strange). I proceeded to tell "Liz" that my checking account had been charged without my authorization. I told her that I had no idea how they had gotten my information. Listed on the check was my name, address, email address, checking account routing number, checking account number, and my social security number!

She told me that if I had been on the internet, like on a payday loan website, which I had, I must have authorized this transaction. She said that they have two: Freedom Subscription and UniGuard. So the same company was responsible for both check charges totalling $69.90!!!

This insults me! I am very careful about authorizing anything over the internet. I'm not click-happy. I read before I click anything. I KNOW that I did not sign up for these services.

She agreed to cancel the services and SEND me a refund that could take up to 30 days! They didn't have a problem debiting me electronically, so I don't understand why they couldn't credit me electronically. And 30 days seems rediculous to me.

They did send me an email a few minutes later, confirming cancellation. We will see what happens with the refund.

It's crazy to me for these companies to steal information from cash advance/payday loan website and charge us for things that we DID NOT sign up for. It's obvious that we have no money, or we wouldn't be visiting the site in the first place.

FYI: There was a third, unauthorized transaction debited to my checking account. It was listed as a DEBIT by "MUF INS INS 877-219-1365" for the amount of $10.95 on 9/28/09. I called this company first and spoke with Dana, who seemed pretty nice. She asked me if I had been to a cash advance website in the past few weeks, which I had. She said that it could have been a pop-up that I had unknowingly authorized. I have pop-ups blocked, so I seriously doubt that's what happened. She did give me the name of the company as "Essential Health" (@ my essentialhealth.com). She explained that it was a supplemental insurance policy which pays you when you visit the doctor or emergency room, and went into the whole sales spill. I just wanted my money back. I can't afford life as it is. She said that she cancelled the policy and would give me a credit, which I will receive in 7-10 days!!!

That's a total of $80.85 worth of UNAUTHORIZED charges to my account... Which I need!!! And for some reason it's going to take me forever to get it back... IF I get it back!!!

This all seems unfair!

Beware of cash advance/payday loan websites!!! And have, and see these kind of charges, you will likely know where they came from.
