The ripoff business that doesnt give a dam

I purchased Hughes DircWay service a few years ago. After the installation of this service, I noticed numerous quality of service problems.

Technically this included interrupted file downloads and slow HTML page loads.

I checked the latency of their system and found that the average 'PING' time was 800 milliseconds. This is about ten times slower than what you would expereince using other dial access services. The net effect was that I could not download files, file expense reports and use this service due to its slow speed.

When I talked with their csutomer service department I explained this and stated that the service was not acceptable. They stated that becuase I coudl get a signal at all, the service was operating 'as advertised'

After cancelling this service, paying all bills, incluing $399 early termination fee, I received a letter from Hugehs demanding another $267 for installation.

I explained to them I had alreday paid the contract installer, paid all bills and service fees. When I spoke to Hughes, they explained that some of the installaiton charges "were not pushed through thier billing system" This was six months after the installation and was of course a lie. I refused to pay this.

Shortly after this NCO Financial, Baltimore MD began sending me threatening letters about this alleged underpayment. Two years after this fiasco began, I continue to receive letters from NCO threatening me and offering to accept partial payments.

Lesson: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HUGHES, DIRECWAY, or EARTHLINK if you are seeking satellite services.
