Defective product warranty ripoff

I bought a laptop from a Circuit City in Sacramento about a year ago. The only one they had left was a floor model so I took it and also purchased an extended warranty on it. About 6 months later I plugged the power cable into the back of the laptop and heard a snap. After that the computer would no longer get any power. I brought it in to get repaired and expected this to be under the warranty since something so simple shouldn't break like this, especially something on the inside.

A week later I got a call saying that it's not covered under warranty and I have to pay $1300 to get it fixed! They're reasoning is that they believe the damage was caused by my negligence! I have taken better care of that laptop than anything else I own.

Ever since I brought the laptop in I have been pushed from one person to the next and eventually back to the first person I called in the huge list of phone numbers at Circuit City.

I eventually told them to send it back to the store I dropped it off at to get repaired so I could send it to HP to have them look at it and see if the damage was caused by me. They said they would call me back when they get it in. Over a month later and many calls later the laptop was back at the store for me to pick up.

I've never been more dissatisfied with a store than now. To have to pay $1300 in repairs for a $1600 laptop is rediculus. Especially for something that couldn't be my fault.
