Horrendous customer service/Dishonest repair policy

Purchased an ASUS EEE PC 1000HE on June 1 from an authorized retailer. Item was back ordered and arrived on June 8. When I first turned on the PC, there was a scratching sound and beeping coming from the hard drive. I called ASUS tech support and was told it was probably a DOA case and was issued a RMA # for return. ASUS requires that I pay to ship the unit back to them, but they promise a 1-2 business day turn around. I call ASUS 2 days after it was received to inquire on the status. "still in repair status". I call the next day. "still in repair status". I call on the 4th business day. "still in repair status"

I was told that if the computer was received and was identified as a DOA that ASUS would send a new unit back to me. This does not seem to be the case and I was explicit when I spoke with ASUS that I did not want a refurbished unit in return. I asked for a supervisor to call me, which never happened. I called back and asked again for a supervisor to call and still no response. 4 business days and still no update on my computer and no answer to why they are not simply sending a new unit to me. The customer service representatives cannot give you ANY information on the status of repairs except that it is "still in repair status"

All I want is an answer of what was wrong with my PC and when I will get it back. No idea!!! Due to the length of time it has taken, I also will lose out on the rebate that was offered with the purchase and when I asked for them to simply package up the computer and send it back to me so I could exchange with the retailer, they said NO!

I bought this computer based on excellent reviews, but my experience with the manufacturer has been horrible. If you happen to get a EEE PC, hope that it works, because if you have to deal with ASUS, you will regret ever purchasing one of their products!!!
