Charged $12.00 to my account without my authorization

12/22/08- I signed up on Classmates.com to try and get in touch with some friends from high school. During my sign up I was asked to enter in a Jackpot for only $1.00-so I entered. I didn't think anything else of it.

12/28/08- I discovered a pending charge of $12.00 on my account from jackpotrewards.com. Somehow, these guys got my credit card information from Classmates.com and decided that I would become one of their members, even though I never agreed or authorized them to use my credit card.

I contacted my bank and they gave me the vendor's toll-free phone number, in order to get a vendor release - 866-804-8840. When I called their number it's all automated and referred me to their website for customer service. No live agent was thereto help resolve the issue. I went to the website and sent an e-mail, demanding my money back.

12/29/08- Here's their reply:

Dear Jackpot Rewards Member: (They didn't even address me personally)

Thanks for contacting us! This email is in response to your recent
inquiry.

When you sent this message, you were logged into the website with the email address and password you created when you made your account. Your Jackpot Rewards recurring membership is now confirmed canceled and you
will remain active until January 28th. You will be automatically entered into Super Jackpot drawings until then, and you can continue to take advantage of the Deal of the Day and our great cash back discounts on your online shopping. Good luck in all of our Jackpot Drawings until then! (end of reply)

I never made an account with them. They took all of my information from classmates.com and used it to make an account for me. I told them this and once again demanded my money back. So far - no reply.

The charge has to post before I can dispute it. Once it posts, I will report it as a fraudulent charge. The bank will probably give me my money back and write off the $12.00. I will update this report as it progresses.

This is just the sort of business that puts our economy in peril.
