Geek squad. Geek squad at best buy in lynnwood #477 unqualified incompitant employees total waste of money!

Internet & Web

I don't even know where to start! I bought my Gateway desktop form best buy in July when I bought it they had me buy the "geek squad package" which from my understanding is having them install security software (that they pick out) and have them "optimize" the computer, I was in a jam and needed it ASAP so they told me I could bring it back ANY TIME to have the "Labor" that I paid for fulfilled.

I took it home installed everything myself, a few weeks later I caught a virus, so I took it in and asked them what it would be to fix it, they told me it was $199 to remove the virus, I laughed and asked what all the crap was that I paid for when I bought the thing, the explained it all to me (from my original receipt) and then I asked for a refund of the "labor" costs since I had already installed my security software myself. He had to get a manager. Then I asked why I got a virus with the "security" that I had he said he could not determine the reason, I sad that was fine and asked for other or better security that what I had bought, he pointed me to kerspersky.

So I exchanged my labor charges for the new security software and the rest was store credit. I took it home plugged everything back in and installed the new software. The next day I took the desktop in to have it "optimized" which they explained to me was they go in with their cooperate software and remove a bunch of extra stuff you don't need or use to make your computer run faster. I picked it up brought it home and the next day the whole system collapsed! There was nothing I could have done.

I tried to restore the system back to before I had the optimization done and that didn't work either, so I called they said they could take a look at it if I brought it in free of charge, so back I went. When I got there they hooked it all up and explained to me that the system had collapsed and it would be $189 for them to "look" at it and see what caused it, or I could take it home and do a complete factory restore for free. I explained that this was their fault and I shouldn't have to pay for it, he said that "it was not the cause of the optimization" I told him I t was working fine until they touched it!

I went home and did the factory restore, the next day I took it back in for them to redo the optimization (I figured if they did it before I reinstalled ANYTING than they couldn't remove stuff I needed for other programs!)
when I got it home for the 4th time I didn't bother plugging it all back in again because I didn't want to deal with it, good choice, once I got everything hooked back up again I'm missing button on my tool bar, for those of you who use vista you'll know what I'm talking about they are the ones next to the start button known as the "quick launch" button there are two, one that when you unclick it minimizes all you windows and shows the desktop, and the other when you click it you get a rolodex type of view of all of you open windows. And those buttons are gone, completely missing!

I do everything I know how to do and nothing works (I know a hair bit more than the average user) nothing worked, so I called best buy they weren't open yet and on the recording was a number for 24 hour geek squad support.

So I called them after being transferred 3 times I finally got to talk to 'the right person" this is where I laugh, he was a gangster! Had no professionalism at all! I though I was talking to someone from the streets (very reassuring... NOT!) he asked me what the problem was I told him about the button, (any one who knows how to turn a computer on can tell you that vista has those buttons and XP doesn't) then he said "and you're using XP right?" tell me how a qualified "COMPUTER REPAIR" person doesn't know the difference? I said no and told him I has using VISTA he then said 'ok right click and you should be able to do it through the menu that pops up" I said tried that the things I need aren't in that menu" he said "there's no menu that pops up? Well there should be and you should be able to do it through that menu" I told him again that I tried that and what I needed wasn't there, then he said he had to write and incident report, I asked why and he said because you are having an issue, then he put me on hold for 5 minutes and said my manager says you have to take it to the store" I asked what the point was of calling them I thought they were suppose to help and all he could say was I needed to take it to the store.

So I called the best buy again! First I pushed the prompts on the phone to get to geek squad I was then put on hold for 7 minutes! I hung up and called back this time trying to talk to a person it rang for 4 minutes and I know this because I have a timer on my phone. I asked to speak to a manager she was polite and asked if there was anything she could help me with, I gave her a brief of what has happened so far she said she would connect me with the store manager instead of the geek squad manager as to not irritate me more. When she connected me it was the same guy that put me on hold for 7 minutes the first time I called he said he was sorry and he took my number and explained he needed to call me back because he had a lot of customers at the moment.

10 minutes later they called back it was a different person this time, I explained the problem and told them it was their fault he said it wasn't and losing these button was not the result of the optimization, I told them I had the buttons before I brought it in and when it came home they were gone (personally I loved those buttons so I know I didn't remove them!) he argued with me and told me I had to bring it in, I asked how long it takes to do an optimization and he said 45 minutes, I explained that it had taken me way more time than that with all the times I have had to unplug everything, drive to the store, go back to pick it up and re-plug it back in 4 times! I asked if they could come to my house instead he said they would have to charge, I asked why he couldn't tell me how to fix it over the phone he said they were not liable. That's it. I'm never taking my computer there again or buying anything from there again!
