Classmates.com
Automatic renewal rip-off

Internet & Web

Received a $39.00 charge on my bank account for gold membership to classmates.com. Never authorized this charge. I did call the company and ironically enough got through to customer service. They said I was automatically renewed for a gold membership, which I never signed up for in the first place. I'm not even sure where they got my account information from. Customer service told me they would be happy to cancel my membership at the end of the renewal period of 6/29/09. I told her I want this cancelled immediately and a credit for the $39.00 already charged. After some arguing about the point I was told that they would cancel this out and credit my account, but it could take up to 30 days before I see it. Guess we'll see what happens. Maybe they are hoping I'll forget about it. For those who are having trouble finding a phone number for classmates.com the number is 1-425-917-5000. Good luck. Companies should not be able to get away with this.
