CTL No warranty service for laptop

CTL says they have a one year no hassle warranty. This is false advertising.

I bought one of their laptops in October from one of their distributors for $1,150.00.in December the CD drive was not working so the distributor that I bought it from picked it up and repaired it.

In March when I tried to open the computer one morning the hinge snapped. I took it in to CTL and they said they would not fix it under warranty. They stated I used undue force to open it which was simply not true but they did not care what I said. They had a company policy that says they won't fix hinges under warranty.

I was very upset but wanted my laptop back so I agreed to have them fix it. They said it would be $30.00 for the hinges and $150.00 for the repair. I was very angry but agreed. I asked when I could have it back and they told me that they did not know when they could get to it, it may take as long as two weeks because they were in the middle of a move. I told them that was totally unacceptable and I called the distributor that I bought the computer from. He told me he would repair it for me and to just get the hinges from them.

I called CTL back and told them I wanted just the hinges, the person then told me that he would have to check if I could do that. He put me on hold then said it would be fine but it would cost $80.00, $30.00 for the hinges and $50.00 for an evaluation fee. I said what evaluation fee? I had never heard of any such charge. He said that when you bring the laptop in and they find out there are repairs that are not under warranty there is a service fee.

When I told my husband about it, he said that was it and asked where this place was and he was just going to go down and get my laptop back. So my husband went down and the person said they would agree to waive the evaluation fee (probably because they never did ANYTHING to my laptop to warrant such a fee). She put the computer and hinges on the counter and went to the backroom. My husband grabbed my laptop and the hinges and left.

We had the computer repaired, only one hinge was broken and the guy who fixed it said he could not honestly say why it broke. I returned the unused hinge to CTL with a letter letting them know how disappointed I was with them and their lack of standing behind their product over a $15.00 part. I did not hear anything back from them.

A few weeks ago when we were plugging the laptop in to charge and the computer screen went blank. I cried. I spent a lot of money on this laptop and it has been my worst nightmare. It is not even a year old and has been to the shop now three times. I called my distributor friend who said he would take a look at it and see if he could fix it.

He could not so he took it to CTL who said it was the motherboard and they would not fix it under warranty and it would cost me $350.00.

I have never been so incredibly sorry about a purchase in my life. I would like CTL to explain what the advertised NO HASSLE warranty means. It is apparent to me that they do not stand behind their product and that their product has serious flaws if it cannot even last a few months without breaking down. I wonder how many others have been duped by this company?
