Sony
Tried To Rip Me Off $699 And Got Away With $108- For The Moment. Computer Is Still Broken. Sony charged me $108 after refusal to accept $699 charge

Internet & Web

I bought a $900 Sony Vista from frys electronics on Feb. 15 of 2007. I also purchased the extended warranty. On Feb 25 the computer crashes. So I called Sony to see what they could do. After several calls they decide that I should send it in to get the hard drive re-imaged, and that it would be free as long as I had my reciept.

No reciept. So I tried to get a copy of it with the warranty from Frys Electronics - This is where it gets interesting. Frys could not find the reciept for the computer in feb but they did find my records from July saying that i had bought some kind of memory. Funny thing is that I was not in San Diego in July - I was not even in the country. So either somebody at Frys is lying or they scramble all of their information to rip off america as a whole.

Anyways - I send sony the computer to get re-imaged for $99. I was even trying to be careful and got $1000 Insurance with UPS. Next time I hear from Sony they are telling me that my touchpad, Screen, and Hard Drive are all damaged and that repair would cost $699.99. So, of course, I refuse and have them send me my worthless computer. Now that I have my computer back I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the touchpad, screen, and the Hard Disk Drive Diagnostic Test comes up with no error. So why is it that Sony would tell me these lies?

Well, I think they have the idea that if they have the computer, and people want them fixed but can't see them fix it, sony can tell us these inflated estimates, and for most part - Get away with it.

They just charged me $108.72. They say it is the cost of diagnosing the computer - which I can understand. However - I was never informed that this was ever a possibility in any of my dozens of phonecalls. So - I am contacting my bank - whom can usually solve these kinds of problems.

I feel that I have been robbed and I want my money back.
