Hughes Net Sold upgraded service under false pretenses then refused refund

Internet & Web

Had and opportunity to work from home. All that was available in my remote area was dial-up service. Contacted HughesNet via flyer received in the mail. The salesman was most gracious while laughing all the way to the bank. I explained to him that I needed a system compatible with VPN. He said their standard service would be up to 75% slower using VPN. Told me I could "upgrade" to a "Power Pack" and it should work fine.initial installation was $399.98. The upgrade was an additional $299.99. The cost would be $79.99 per month for the service. The power pack had additional capabilities of upgrading to the business system if I found that the service was too slow. That would be $99.99 per month.

They arrived at my home Monday, 1/14 and installed the dish and hooked up the computer. The installer (I am guessing an independent) sold me a router for another $150.00 in order to be able to use 2 computers at the same time. All that was done after the initial installation was connect to Internet Explorer which worked fine.

Tuesday, I attempted to connect to my business sites and kept getting knocked out. I would have to re-boot in order to be able to connect again. Called tech support and was instructed to follow a different process each of the three times I had to call. I told them the same thing each time I called. The fourth time, the technician told me they "don't support VPN" and he was very sorry but he could not help me. I then called Customer Service. The gentleman apologized and said he would escalate my complaint and someone would contact me within 2 business days.

Wednesday, 1/16 I received a call from Shannon. She was very upset that I was told they don't support VPN and assured me that they had many customers connecting through VPN. She stated that all I needed was was a "static IP address" for an additional $15 per month and it should work fine. Told me to contact "advanced" tech support for instructions. I did so and installed the new address. The very first time I attempted to make a connection, I lost my connection. I called again, went through the very long process of attempting to talk to a human and was finally connected to someone in tech support. He forwarded me to someone in "advanced" tech support. I explained the problem for the 15th time, was put on hold and disconnected. I called back to billing to have them disconnect the service and asked for a refund. Was placed on hold and disconnected again. Finally, the last time I called, the girl refused a refund, refused to escalate my call, refused to supply her supervisors name and repeated several times..."Like I said before... Like I said before... Unfortunately no refund, unfortunately no refund.

Keep in mind that I also purchased a new computer for this service as well. So, I am now out approximately $1900.00 and have nothing to show for it but high blood pressure. I am retired and don't have access to funds to virtually "throw away" on junk. And, believe me, this is junk. Now, in addition, I have additional medical bills to have that extra butt-hole sewn up that HughesNet reamed me. They are a sorry excuse of a business.
