Go Daddy, Snapnames Backorder Service is like throwing money away

Over a year ago I lost my father's domain (a personal one. Not business at all). I was pleased to see that it was coming up for renewal and the was pending deletion. I placed the domain on backorder thinking I would have a shot at getting it (would be a nice birthday gift for him as he was upset to lose it to begin with). I have never used the service before but was willing to put a few extra dollars towards securing the domain.

I watched and watched. Turns out the backorder service was unable to obtain the domain. I completely understand that there are no guarantees. I asked customer service if at least I can put the money that was in the backorder towards purchase of another domain. Not all of it. Just what was allocated to go towards the year for the domain that was on backorder. They said no.

Come to find out that the domain I wanted was snatched by snapnames.com and is for auction starting at $75!

I have been dealing with web domains for over 10 years now and have been a godaddy customer for several years. I just feel like this whole bit is a scam. Only those with automated computers to snatch deleting names can be quick enough to get domains these days and sell them for much higher cost.

I cannot believe that regulations allow for companies like snap to gain valid addresses and put them up for auction. I am so disappointed in this system and have found the backordering/monitoring service to be a complete waste of money. Especially (and I thought of this afterward).. There is no telling how many people have the same domain on backorder.

Before using this service. Just go torch a 20 and save yourself the disappointment.
