Rip-off return policy, "free shipping" has secret motive to avoid returns Internet

Internet & Web

I bought a microsoft zune for my daughter's christmas present. I bought it in plenty of time, so I decided to take advantage of their free shipping, as christmas was 6 weeks away, so no rush. I kept tracking this package, and bottom line is, it took 19 days to get to my door from the point they claim to have shipped it. No problem, I was not in a hurry anyway.
I have never used a zune, and decided to check it out before hiding it in the 'ol closet for christmas. I was a little surprised to find that I was getting no sound from the earphones, so I tried others that I know work, but still no sound. I fiddled around for a while, just to make sure that it wasn't on some kind of mute setting or something. Anyway, after much effort, I concluded that I had received a defective product from buy.com.
Imagine my surprise when the bottom line from buy.com is their return policy states that any returns to them MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF THEIR SHIPPING DATE. This means that once they "claim" to ship, the item must get to you, you must test it and possibly find it defective, you must then get an rma number from them (I don't know how long this takes), then the item must ship to them and be received by them NO LATER THAN 14 DAYS AFTER THEIR ORIGINAL SHIP DATE.
What this means for me is that 5 days before I even received this item, I lost any chance of possibly recovering my money.
No "BARGAIN" is worth getting an expensive paperweight... Do not buy from buy.com
