This report will be expanded in its entire sorry entirety. I just wanted to warn potential victims of the antics of Danka and it's new HP9850 print hub technology.

In short. Colour copiers.

I bought a complete hub off Danka Australia in order to supply my network of sign and print stores. I had to pay for it up front in full to lower the click charges.

BEWARE any click charges... The small print only allows less than 20% ink coverage. Most printing jobs use up to 400% ink/toner if it is full colour as per a flyer... (It uses Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black).

It NEVER worked from the day I bought it. Jamming, striping, burning paper and the booklet maker wouldn't staple and had to be disconnected as the rollers would leave tank tracks through each page.

Prior to purchase we were showed fantastic full colour prints that David Smith, sales manager had provided to us. (Photographic picture, photograph of watches)
We later learnt that these prints werent even printed on a HP9850!
For anyone not wanting to be ripped off by phoney copy sales people take my advise... Full colour complicated photos are the worst for checking quality equipment as it is hard to see imperfections. The test is to print an extremely light cyan colour maybe only say 10%. This is a photocopy salesmans nightmare as it will show up every imperfection in the form of banding. A problem in fairness to all toner based systems... Unless they are top of the range.

I even tried this test at the invitation of Xerox... Same problem, but they did call me back in and fixed it after prepping there machine.

Problem with Danka is as soon as you buy a machine they don't want to know you. Service is non existant and you have to rely on a call centre in India who will keep you on hold all day until you give up. They will refer you to supervisors who do not have the authority to actually make a decision.

After refusing to pay for 1000s of misprints/click charges which I kept as evidence they sued me. Cost me $1000s in defence, the action of course never got to court.

Another "Nasty" that Danka use to their advantage is that any legal action against them should the machine not work Must be defended in NSW. An unpractical situation as it would be prohibitive. This is a minute clause you can barely read on the back of their service agreement. If you are buying or intend to buy a Danka machine, get this deleted or draw up your own contract. It would have been cheaper for me.

2 years later I still have a pile of rubbish equipment sitting in my factory that can't even produce a black and white copy. The HP9850 is such a disaster that it was discontinued and I think I was one of two only purchasers in Australia.

New equipment can be hazardous I accept that. But my "BEEF" is that Danka preferred to bury me in their own legal crap rather than admit/give back the money or even offer an alternative piece of machinery. The problem was magnified as Dank sold me 200k worth of finishing equipment as a package... Laminator, guillotine, numberer, and folding machine. This equipment has been dormant since I started 2 years ago as we cant get a SINGLE copy out.
