Automatic renewals/Unauthorized charge to back account

I was just looking at my bank statement and saw a charge for $34.99 made by Register.com. They had sent me emails to renew and I even received a call from them to do so. I told them that I was not going to be renewing with them as I was switching to Domains Priced Right ($7.95/year). I called to question them about the charge. They said that I was on automatic renewal, so it is my fault.

If that were the case, why would they be sending me emails and calling me? He asked me if I asked them to take me off the auto renewal. I told him that I did not even know that I was on it! Further, the charge was about two months ago... Shows you how often I balance my check book. Because it was over 30 days they would only refund a portion of my money. Shame on them!
