Bidz.com
Ripoff, confusing deceptive shipping, high shipping charges

Internet & Web

I've been to the bidz.com web site on several occasions, and had never won any auctions until recently. At this point, I can't speak to lost shipments or broken items, but I basically knew what I was bidding on. I can pretty much read the descriptions, and know what I am getting. If a diamond is described as J in color and S2 in clarity, then I know its a very poor quality stone. And yes, I know that the "compare price" is highly inflated.

I won several items, and then bid on another item, and received a pop-up that said I had to pay for my first 3 auctions. I actually intended to keep bidding on other items, as I had read that you could have 30 jewelry items per invoice for $3.00 for each additional item.

It does say that shipping items are based on category, and gift items can be combined up to a total of 3 items. I have no clue what gift items are. It also says that combined gift items are $5.00 for each additional item, and gift items cannot be combined with jewelry items. I had read the shipping charge for US shipping, which I read as $7.95 for Priority Mail.

I went to the checkout, and the shipping charge then was $10.95 (I think it was FEDEX) with $3.00 each additional. These can't be gift items since it was only $3.00 each additional and you can't combine gift items with jewelry items. So why was I only allowed to bid on 3 items before I had to check out when it said I could have 30? It would seem to me that it is simply to get higher shipping charges.

Then I noticed that there was a "transaction fee" which was $3 and some change. The money itself was not important, but I have never on that site seen any mention of this fee. I just like to be informed of all fees.

Thankfully, I did not complete the transaction, and I will certainly never visit that site again.
