Hidden charges to free trial ripoff

Internet & Web

Stamps.com offers a free signup or free trial. I signed up. I am Canadian. However I often visit my daughters in the U.S. And have packages to go to various locations in the U.S. I found that I could not use the service because I had a Canadian address. Okay I used my daughter's U.S. Address. Then when I tried to print postage label for a package it would not allow me to. So I gave up. A while later I checked in PayPal and they had charged my $15.99 for nothing! A service I never did and never could use!

I emailed them. They accept signups by web but NOT CANCELLATIONS. And being in California, their hours are not convenient to phone them. Also, often when I phoned I had long waits and gave up after a while because I have a life!

When I finally did get someone they explained that HIDDEN IN THE TERMS OF SERVICE, was the information that I had to pay every month whether I could use their service or not. They cancelled the account.

In spite of the cancellation, they attempted to charge me again for the next month. Fortunately PayPal sided with me and refunded my money.

However that did not prevent them from trying over and over again to charge me through PayPal which was denied each time by PayPal. Then they started to send letters to my daughter's address in New York state. They were warning letters that they were going to turn my account into collection.

I wish I could contact some government organization that would stop the harrassment.

Stay away from Stamps.com.
