Computer repair shop sells USED PARTS as NEW. Poor installation, high prices

Internet & Web

I took my 6 month old laptop computer into Laptops Plus in Carlsbad, CA. On January 3rd. I spoke with John who explained that he was the owner.

I described the issue to him (which was a dark lcd screen) and he stated that it could be one of two things. The first would cost around $100 to repair and the second would cost $750 to repair.
Of course I received a call two days later that it was the more expensive of the two repairs, but since it was a really expensive computer I should do it. So I authorized him to order a brand new (under warranty) LCD panel for the computer.

Two days later I was called to pick up the computer. I immediately noticed that the "new" lcd had 4 dead pixels and a light scratch in the lower right corner.
I pointed these issues out and was assured that 4 dead pixels was acceptable for a 17" LCD screen.
I told them that it wasnt acceptable to me and that I wasnt going to pay $750 for a bad LCD. They informed me that the supplier would not take it back with 4 dead pixels and if I wanted to have them order a replacement LCD I would have to pay for it.

Of course I refused and said that I just wanted my computer back, with its original LCD. They then informed me that the original LCD had been thrown away. But that they could take the new LCD out.

I waited almost another week, until they called me to pick it up. When I arrived they handed me my computer in a box. It was completely taken apart (even the hard drive, keyboard, dvd drive and memory was taken out. I asked why this was necessary and they said that all of this was required to take the LCD out. I looked at the empty spot for the LCD and counted 4 screws that would have needed to come out.

I stood there while John made a million excuses and finally after he started yelling at me I left.
I took the computer to another shop and was told that I was missing several pieces, that the actual cause of the problem WAS the $100 power invertor NOT the LCD and that the cost of a new LCD was only $300. SO now I had to pay $400 to get it replaced PLUS I had to get my parts back.

The very next day I checked my credit card balance and Laptops Plus had charged my credit card $852.45 for parts and labow to repair a computer they stole parts from and gave me back in pieces.
