Tech Depot. Online div of Office Depot Watch out if paying by check or money order

Using the online site of Tech Depot, I ordered a 40 GB hard drive on June 2. Since I deal only in cash or money order, I mailed the money order June 3. Specified address is Tech Depot c/o Bank of America... Po bx 402912, Atlanta GA 30384.

Money order was mailed and postmarked June 3. A real live human telephone operator for Tech Depot later confirmed they had received my money order June 7. She said they will ship June 21.

The online ad for the product said they had over 5900 of these particular hard drives in stock! BUT they do not ship until ten business days after receipt of your check or money order.
And this is the Bank of America, for Pete's sake???

So they had my money June 7, and their simple-minded recording in customer service kept telling me my order "will be shipped by UPS Ground service" but didn't say WHEN.

On June 21 I talked to a customer rep at Tech Depot. He confirmed all orders paid by check or money order wait ten business days to be ship. The red herring he offered was they have gotten bad checks and money orders in the past, and it didn't matter if I had paid with a cashier's check or a money order from Western Union or the Post Office (which I hadn't).

This is transparent bullshit. If Bank of America cannot clear a check or money order in a day or two, their competitors sure as hell can, and they damn-well know it.

So what they are doing is investing customers money for two weeks and paying the customer no interest on it. The bad check nonsense is a lie and an excuse to play with your money. I just thought you might want to let people know about this...
