Lost Harddrive, Lost Personal Data, Multiple Excuses and Lies ripoff

I brought my laptop into MacAuthority for service, the screen would not display after start up.

I AGREED to pay extra for a back up of my hard drive. Had to sign a statement that I understood there was a charge and to authorize the back up.

After a week I still had not heard from the service department and called. I was told my data had been transferred to a new computer.in fact some of my data had been transferred to a refurbished laptop with a mis-aligned battery.

When I received the laptop the battery was dead so I could not verify the data transfer at the store. 30 minutes later I had discovered that in fact all of my personal data WAS NOT TRANSFERRED.

I called immediately and was told they would locate my old drive and retreive the data, and contact me.

I had to make a second call as no one called me back. I was then informed that my hard drive was removed from my original unit and placed in a pile with others. Someone would TRY to locate it and secure my data. When the search was finished they would call me.

After my third phone call I was told it wasn't possible to find my original hard drive in the pile of old drives.

I finally just went back into the store to learn EXACTLY what had transpired. I explaineed the multiple stories that I had been told and asked for an explanation.

I was then informed that the tech who had done the original but incomplete transfer had "verified" all the data had been transferred and never made a back up of my hard drive. After he "verified" the transfer, he ERASED my original hard drive and eliminated all of the personal data that I had stored during a two year trip through Europe.

Because the screen display did not work after my return from the trip I was unable to initiate my own back up. So was forced to rely on the MacAuthority Staff.

The manager informed me that it was a violation of policy to NOT perform the back up as requested and that they were "sorry" my data had been completely lost. Adding that the tech was reprimanded.

POOR SERVICE and multiple LIES regarding the possibility of retreiving my personal info. MULTIPLE phone calls to get to the root of the problem. And the only thing the management would say is "Sorry".

I'm sorry too.

I am sorry I put my trust in MacAuthority and trusted them with two years worth of memories and my personal travel log. Not even considering music and multiple programs that I cannot replace.

There are other Mac computer stores and service departments. I urge EVERYONE to avoid MacAuthority like the plague they are.
