Intuit
Forced upgrade from Quicken 2003 to 2006 ripoff

Internet & Web

Disabled online features of Quicken 2003 to force the upgrade to 2006 in order to restore the online functions. This is legal because under their license agreement under termination they spell out that they can discontinue services at any time. I found out the hard way that they can do this because I tried unsuccessfully to sue them in small claims court, and also found out in court that a class action lawsuit about Quicken 99 had been unsuccessful in Costa Mesa.

Even though this is legal, it is deceptive because nowhere in their marketing to they state that it is a subscription service.infact, in court they did not deny that they had actually changed the code in order to break something which I had paid for. Even though the license agreement clearly states that online banking is a relationship between the institution, and the Quicken user they hide behind that stealthily written section.

I am glad to at least have the opportunity to warn anyone who is considering buying Quicken, that you need to understand that you are buying something that Intuit can unilaterally disable any feature at any time when THEY think it is time for you to buy the newest version.
