Fraudulent Claims, Dishonest about Contract ripoff

Internet & Web

In September I signed up for SBC Internet DSL. I called SBC today (01/03) to cancel my Internet Service with them and they told me that I logged into my SBC email address in September (four months ago) and renewed my contract for 1 year. This resulted in a $200.00 cancelation fee if I wished to cancel my service.

First of all I haven't logged into that email for over a year. I use a completely seperate email which is linked to my Outlook. I believe that SBC uses this as a tactic to prevent customers from canceling their service. I asked the representative (John T. From Northern California) to send me some sort of document showing that I had renewed my service through my SBC email. He explained that there was no way to do this. He told me that he could see in his system that I specifically logged into my SBC email and agreed to another year of service but there was no way to physicaly prove this to me. He couldn't even send me a screen shot of what he saw in his system becasue he said this was proprietary. I guess proving that I actually renewed my contract is proprietary.

The bottom line is that I know 100% that I never renewed my service with SBC and it was apparent that they would lie and do whatever it took to use this false clain as a deterent. I then asked to file a complaint and of course he was the only person that could file a complaint on my behalf. Basically the person I was arguing with about this was the person that was go to plead my case with SBC. He told me there was no other manager that I could speak to and no matter what I was going to loose this dispute. He also stated that I would not hear an answer to this dispute for 30 days. Well if I am paying $95 per month to SBC for service and it takes 30 days to get an answer to my dispute I will have already paid almost half of my $200.00 cancelation fee just to wait to hear that I have lost my dispute.

To make a long story short I will never do business with SBC again. I rather pay $200.00 up front then ever give then a penny again. I recommend that anyone searching for a phone, cable, or internet provider stay away from SBC. If you don't then be prepared to have someone tell you that you renewed your contract when in reality you didin't. Good luck if you want to see a copy of your renewal becuase according to SBC that is proprietary.
