Misleading advertising and incompetent customer service

I received a $400 off coupon on select systems (which were not listed on the coupon). I picked out the system that I wanted to purchase from the catalog and called customer service. I was told the coupon was valid as long as my system was over $1299 and I ordered it online.

I placed the order but it would not let me use the coupon. I called in FOUR times and was redirected every time. Two people told me that the coupon was not valid at all. One told me it was not valid on that system. The last one told me it was valid on that system and if I would submit the order she would apply the coupon on her end.

As soon as I hit submit, she hung up! How convenient is that?

We called right back in and after being redirected multiple times, we finally got someone (who spoke minimal English; which we quickly realized must be the norm for Dell)

This person assured us that the order was cancelled, and even got her "manager" on the phone to confirm this.

Lo and behold a week later we got a letter confirming that our new system was in the process of being shipped, and $1500 was charged to our Dell Account.

I called again and I got very snappy with the representative and was assured again that this system would be cancelled and I talked to her "manager" as well.

This has left a very sour taste in my mouth concerning doing business with Dell. I will not purchase anything from Dell because of this. The customer service is a joke and they need to stop outsourcing and get someone who knows what they are doing!
