Clinic not doing their job in the first place by obtaining pre-certification

I was seen at OrthoArkansas for back pain. A prior visit had confirmed I had degenerative disk disease. An MRI was recommended. I questioned the scheduler about obtaining authorization from my insurance. I was assured this would be done. I was never told that my ins would not cover the test or I would not have had it done. MRI was done and confirmed prior diagnosis. My insurance did not cover stating it was a pre-existing condition. The office should have told me this was a p ossibility prior to having test done. I started receiving statements from OrthoArkansas. I did the right thing and told them I could make monthly payments to pay off. It was agreed upon and for several months I received reminders and made monthly payments. I noticed after a while that statements had stopped and I sent a letter to OrthoAR asking why. No answer was given. I then out of the blue received notification that I had been turned over to collections. I signed an agreement with attorney Kenneth Crow that I would resume monthly payments and requested monthly reminders. I never got any montly reminders and then all of a sudden received notification of lawsuit against me. I am appalled and horrified. First of all, the clinic should have given me the option if they had truly contacted my insurance company before the test was done. Secondly, I was doing the right thing and making payments and am now being sued. I feel they are going after me simply because I WAS doing the right thing. I have filed a countersuit for the clinic not performing their due diligence in obtaining pre certification in the first place.
