A Med Billing Services had recently forwarded my account to a collection firm for nonpayment. This was in reference to a medical procedure I had done on October 6. I confirmed that this was a legitimate charge/debt and immediately paid the collection firm in full.
I contacted A Med Billing Services to find out why they had not sent me a bill. They told me that they had sent three statements and two letters regarding this matter to my home. It turns out that they had the wrong address on file for me. They made no effort in confirming the accuracy of their information and/or contacting the physicians involved to get additional or correct contact information for me.instead they chose to simply send my account to a collection company.
The collection firm had no problem contacting me regarding this matter via a letter they sent to my home. I received this letter on March 19. They had my correct address.
In today’s fragile economy any bad reference or “hit” on your credit rating can adversely affect your ability to obtain future credit because of a lowered score. A Med Billing Services must be put on notice that they need to be diligent and exhaust all efforts in making contact with an individual prior to sending their account to a collection company and possibly ruining someone's credit score.
