Health & Medicine

This in an incident concerning my boyfriend, who often sends off for free samples of certain products online, at my request.

Day before yesterday, he brought me a box, saying, "here's another free sample for you" and when I looked at it, I immediately recognized it as Trimlife, as I already had two bottles that he had brought over, during the course of six months. I asked him why they kept sending us bottles, because I hadn't even opened the prior one's that kept being shipped.

We made the mistake of assuming that it was a promotional "gimmick" or some kind of mix-up, as I've had other companies send me multiple samples. Since he and his mother share a credit card, he called her to ask if she had been ordering the Trimlife, and she knew nothing about it. He initially didn't even remember submitting his credit card info. On the Trimlife website, but after much thought, realized he had requested a sample that required $2.50 s&h.

I recall sending off for, and receiving a packet of two Trimlife tablets, MONTHS ago, but I didn't have to submit a credit card.

This leads me to presume that they began sending out completely free samples, such as what was sent to me, and due to being placed on a large free sample site, causing an inundation of requests, Trimlife then began charging a s&h fee. Little did he know that they would begin deducting an approx. Amount of $37 monthly from his credit card.

Realizing one should always read the "fine print", I still feel certain that at the time he initially requested the sample, Trimlife was in the process of modifying their free sample policy, due to being bombarded with more requests than they imagined; as I stated above, I didn't have to submit a credit card, nor did I have to pay any s&h fees, so how is that explained?

Another issue I have with Trimlife is that, IF he was sucked into the auto-ship program, the website states, and even elaborates on their customer support staff, newsletters that are to be sent, and other services; I have copied and pasted this text from their website:
(Quote) "We help you throughout the 90-Day Program to support, motivate and educate you on how you're body burns fat, plus you receive a complete individualized food and exercise program. We will be with you every step of the way from the start of your 90-day weight loss program through your maintenance program." (Unquote).

So, here we stand with this company's scam, which I feel is immoral, unethical and, in my opinion, illegal. I don't know what to do or where to go from here; I feel responsible, due to my being the one who asked him to request a sample, and he is outraged, to say the least.

One last detail I'd like to mention is that yesterday, I sent them a very "nasty" note. Due to what they state in their Privacy Policy regarding their ability to track users and individual domains who visit their site, I find it very ironic that today, when I viewed their sample offer and tried to click on, "click here for details", the link wouldn't function for me.

Needless to say, they've yet to respond to my complaint that I submitted on their site, in which I asked to be contacted by e mail, as I also wrote that I was afraid to even provide them with my phone number due to their fraudulent practices.
