Eye examination expense

The eye examinations of my son and I are fully covered by EyeMed.

I phoned Albany-Berkeley optometry (510-526-0194) and asked them whether they accept our insurance or not. The secretary said that you are covered and you are welcome. We set up an appointment on Jan. 17.

On Jan 17, my son and I went to the clinic on time for eye examinations. After the examinations, they told us that they were not accepting our insurance and asked us for the whole expenses, $135 for each, $ 270 for both). I refused to pay them all. You know, they were not allowed us to leave the clinic. After discussion, we paid $50 and left the clinic.

I phoned my insurance company for the solution. They said the maximum for out-of-network exam is $30 for each.

Now, the clinic phoned me and told me that I have to pay the rest ($ 220), otherwise, they will send my files to the collection company.

It is really unfair! I do not want to pay any penny to them because they made the mess at the first place and lied later. Now, they denied that they said that we are covered during the phone conversation, which I can not prove. I need someone to help me out!
