Apria Healthcare
Poor, disorganized, service & unfair billing practices

Health & Medicine

I am so glad I'm not doing business with this company anymore. My daughter had about a year long illness in which she needed health supplies from Apria. I won't go into the details of her illness, but the supplies were necessary as she was not able to breathe well on her own. They were not supplies that we could just go pick up at the store, so we were depending on Apria.

To say the service was bad is an understatement. I would order supplies and wait, and wait, and wait for them to come. When I called to see what the hold up was they would say they have no record of that order. I would re-order what should've been sent in the first place and when the supplies would get to me it would be the wrong thing. I would call, replace the order and tell them to come pick the wrong order back up. I would have to call several times to have them pick the wrong order back up and then they would bill me for them saying that I didn't call in time!

The staff at Apria weren't unpleasant. But they won't give you an order number or any kind of proof that you placed the order. Eventually I started writing the date, time, and name of the person who took the order. Then I called back the next day to make sure that it was placed. Then I called back 3-4 days later to make sure again. Not surprisingly, sometimes the third call back actually was necessary as the first and second calls did not seem to do the job.

All this is frustrating, but it's nothing compared to their billing practices. They refuse to set up a payment schedule that is longer than 3 months. I had a very high deductible on my health insurance (about 5K) and I needed the equiptment so I couldn't help but run up high bills. I was making monthly payments, but they would call and tell me that they would sell my account into collections if I didn't pay more. This is very upsetting because I am very responsible with money. Then, several months after I had paid the account off in full they "found" some old charges that were made about a year before. I had been getting statements for $0 prior to this and no new charges were made. I called to see what the charges were for and told them I needed about a week to do some research to see if they were valid. A week later I sent a check and the day after the check cleared I got a notice that the account had been sent to collections. It was not my fault that the bill was paid a year late. And they should've given me more than a week to pay the stupid thing. Now I have a collections agency on my credit report. I will never use this company again and as a nurse I will warn other patients from using them.
