Sterling Optical of Auburn advertised a deal of $129.00 for one pair of glasses and contacts including the exam for both. It sounded like a great deal until after the exam they told me it would be a total of $229.00 instead of $129.00. I then asked for a prescription for my contacts since I knew I could get a better deal for my contacts somewhere else. The man then became became boisterous and rude, even going as far as shouting at me in front of my son. "ECPs derive substantial revenue from the sale of replacement contact lenses and have an economic incentive to withhold prescriptions from customers to prevent consumers from shopping for replacement lenses elsewhere. The principal reason some ECPs advance for refusing to provide a patient with his or her contact lens prescription, at least when public policy makers are paying attention, is health care.By withholding prescriptions, ECPs argue they are ensuring that the patient comes back for eye care. This "consumer health" argument is based on the theory that, as a "medical device, " contact lenses require a professionals attention. Yet, replacement lenses are not and need not be individually fit by an eye care practitioner." Finally instead of demonstrating how to safely put on and take off the contact lenses they would first make sure you payed first. The premise being it would not be safe to give me the prescription.
