Crown Optical
Ripoff withholds contact lens prescription to force you to buy their products

Health & Medicine

When the opthamologist at this Crown Optical store in St. Peters found out I wanted to buy my contacts from a better priced outlet, he refused to release the information to the vendor claiming that my prescription had expired.in truth, the prescription was only 8 months old.

I had my first exam and fitting in August but due to "his rules" (the words of one of his staff, not mine) could not have a supply of contacts dispensed until I wore the trial pair of lenses and then returned for however many exams needed until he was comfortable with the fitting. (Incidently, this particular doctor had implemented charging for two separate exams if you wear both contacts and glasses since the year or so before when my husband had an exam).

It was four months later (in December) before I was able to be approved and allowed to purchase a supply of the lenses. I bought the first supply from this store but when I needed more contacts, found a better price on the internet. Due to new legislation passed in early vendors of contact lenses can not sell to you without the approval of the doctor who presribed the lenses initially. The doctor at this store claimed that my prescription was expired (based on the date of my first exam and fitting in August), ignoring the fact that the final fitting and dispensing did not occur until four months later in December. Therefore, at the time I tried to purchase more lenses in September this prescription was only 8 months old.

I contacted the office by letter detailing the situation. They mailed copies of my records and the prescription to me, still dated incorrectly.
