Rude, inept staff, unethical treatment and transfered private medical files without my permission

I am disgusted with my previous eye doctor's office. To start, I had been going there from the time that I was a teenager and had my mom listed as responsible party and was on her insurance at the time. Well, when I was 18, I moved out on my own and got under my husband's insurance plan through his work. I had gone there several times to get my eyes checked and EVRY time, they had my mother listed as responsible party, they had me at her address, AND they still had the wrong insurance information. SEVERAL times, I had gone in and tried to change it with the receptionist staff. It NEVER got changed, leading to cumbersome office visits, where I had to constantly update information. How it never got changed, I don't know.

Well, fast forward to more recently. I am 25 years old and called in to set an appointment for an eye exam to get contacts. I was told that they did not have my files. After a very confusing, infuriating conversation, they told me that they just did not know anything about it. I felt that they should have known SOMETHING because they WORK there!

Finally I was connected with someone who told me that I had recently called in to transport my private medical records to another facility, which was about 15 more miles away from my home and made no sense. I told them over and over again that I did NOT call in to have my files moved. I am a relatively calm person, but after so many times of hearing "you called in to have them transfered so we don't know anything else about it" I got very angry with their incompetence. I hung up on the woman and shortly after got a call from a very rude receptionist. She proceeded to tell me that I wasn't being truthfull and NOT ONLY THAT, but I had also requested to have my last name changed to a name that I had never even heard of! She used very unethical business practice by telling me that I was a liar. To make matters worse, she had remembered me and referenced that I was the one with my mom as my responsible party, which should have been changed seven years ago!

So... I got in touch with the receptionist at the new facility, who told me that I had called into their office to get the files moved. At this point, I was DONE. No one knew ANYTHING about the transfer of my MEDICAL FILES WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Well, about half an hour later, I got a call back from the new facility, who stated that they had figured out what happened. This is where it gets more infuriating... They had sent the request to Sunnyside vision source to move files. Apparently the woman who called in used to go to Sunnyside Vision as a child and needed her files moved. She had a similar name and apparently her birthday was in the same month as mine, but nothing else matched! In the woman's words, they had BOTH files out and were looking at both of them and ASSUMED that mine were the right files to move! I am disgusted with their lack of verification. So now my files are in a new facility with a different last name. I have not recieved an apology for my inconvenience, they haven't even acknowledged what they did. I had to go to the office that was far out of my way because I did not want to deal with those people again. Anyway, please think twice before using that office. They are TRULY unethical and incompetent office workers.
