Maternity Card By AHCO (Affordable Healthcare Options)
They charge you $699 and then do NOT deliver on the savings they "guarantee"

Maternity Card is a company that promises to get you low, affordable maternity care, from doctor's visits, lab work (75% savings), hospital stay, anesthia, and the baby's care at time of delivery and up to 2 years after it's birth. I paid Maternity Card $699 for this service and they have done nothing since.

When finding an OB/GYN all Marternity Card did was find Doctors in my area and call them and got their pricing, which was their regular pricing, nothing discounted anymore. I called one of the doctors on that list, explained that I did not have maternity coverage, but did have health insurance, they quoted me a lower price than Maternity Card had given me from them. When I called and confronted them about the fact that I got a lower rate from the doctor than they did (which is their job) they told me that all the saving would come after having the baby because they would be negotiating the hospital bills down.

When calling to register at the hospital before the baby was born, I asked them about the costs that would be my responsibilty since I did not have maternity coverage. I was given the hospitals normal estimated cost and was told that if I paid that before delivery there would be a 30% discount. Later on in the pregnancy Maternity Card called and told me "Good news", that they had talked with the hospital and if I prepaid the estimated cost of delivery I would receive a 30% discount. It was the exact number that I had gotten from the hospital 2 months prior.

Now the baby is 5 months old and none of the delivery bills have been taken care of by Maternity Card. We were getting letters from the Anesthiologist and from the hospital threatening collections, and Maternity Card was supposed have been in contact with them negotiating those bills down. My husband called Maternity Card SEVERAL times a day and could NEVER get our "case manager" to call us back. Finally getting through to someone and having to explain the whole situation to a new "case manager", they called the hospital and Anesthiologist. I ended up calling the Anesthiologist's office to make sure things were okay (I didn't really need to be sent to collections) and I was told my them that they do negotiate bills, but they do accept payment plans at whatever I could afford a month at no interest. Two weeks later Maternity card emailed me and said "Good news" (yeah right) the Anesthiologist was willing to go with a payment plan at no interest. I'm still waiting to hear about the remaining hospital bill.

In the year since paying for this service the only thing they have really done is get 30% (not the 75% they promise on their website) knocked off a couple of my lab bills, a savings of less than $100. My husband called them today and was told that the "case manager" assigned to us was no longer with the company. This is the fifth one to go since last January. They promise to save you the cost of your membership ($699) or they will pay the difference plus $200. Somehow I doubt that I will ever see any of my money back.
