Extremely Misleading! Ripoff

Dear Consumers,

I recieved microbraiding services from Adam and Eve African Hair Braiding (5722 York Road phone number 410-539-3099) on October 1. I arrived at their shop at 7 am and was asked what hair style I wanted. I informed the manager (Eve) that I wanted microbraids. There is no sign in the shop that states what services are available and how much each service costs however, I had previously called and spoken with Eve by telephone the previous Tuesday to set up the appointment and to find out the price of microbraiding which was $220.00. She (Eve) told me where to sit and the stylist began working on my hair. I remained seated for the duration of getting my hair done. About an hour into the braiding I was asked to pay in full for the service which I did. After paying I noticed that the mirrors in the shop are elevated above the clients head when they are seated so I was not able to see what the stylist was doing.

Around 3pm the stylist informed me that she was done and put my hair into a ponytail. I examined the front of the ponytail that was visible and was pleased. The stylist even asked me to take her home and I agreed. She asked me if I liked the hair and I told her yes I really did.

When I dropped her off I decided I was going to go to Towson Town Center to have my braids layered and I took my hair out of the ponytail. I began to run my fingers through my hair and realized that all the braids in the center of my head were only braided half an inch down. My hair was sticking out very shabbily and it looked horrible. There was no way I would be able to wear my hair down with this style. I also felt around the center of my head and the braids in the center (which are supposed to be braided closely hence the name 'microbraid') were spaced literally one finger width or more apart in comparison to the ones in the front which were braided very close together. The braids were also very large in comparison to the braids in the front (which were visible to my eye while at the braid shop).

I stopped at the nearest light and phoned the shop and told Eve that I was very displeased with my hair and wanted to come back. She told me that I could not come back and I would not be helped because the stylist was no longer there. She also informed me that to braid my hair completely into the braid was $260.00. I informed her that I was not aware of this. She said I watched the stylist do my hair I should have known what was going on. I told her that I did not see her as the mirrors are ABOVE the customers head when they are seated. I asked her why I was not aware of the price difference and she told me I should have asked. I asked her if someone else could assist me with fixing my hair. She told me no other people were being helped right then and it was a holiday in their culture and they wanted to get home to their children. I informed her that I lived hours away and this was the only free day I had. She told me if I wanted it done I could come on Tuesday and pay the difference. I told her that was not fair and being that I needed my hair fixed I would come the next Sunday (which is my only free day during the week). I called my husband and he told me to tell them that I would wait as long as possible to get the braids fixed today. I called back and she told me it was not possbile.

I than called the Adam and Eve Hair Braiding Shop on Belair Road. The manager there told me that her sister handled the complaints at the York Road Shop and she was busy. I came home and my husband photographed my hair (which I have pictures) and I asked my cousin to help braid the artifical hair down to my real hair so that I would be able to wear my hair to work. We were not able to seal the ends of the hair because we did not know how and the braids will probably unravel in the next day or two.

I am so appalled by there behavior, deception and lack of concern for the customer that I doubt if I go back. I would rather pay someone to complete my hair then give them anymore money. Please be excercise caution when looking for establishments to do your hair!!! It might be a rip-off!!!
