Matrix Acceptance
Fraudulent Collection Practices Ripoff

Health & Medicine

I joined a local Ladies Workout in December of and enen though the owners of the gym tried to get me to sign a three year contract, "You'll save more money!", I decided to go with a one year contract. As with most people, about six months in, I lost interest and stopped going, yet I continued to pay my dues, as I knew that I had signed a contract. I did not have a problem with that.

In Janurary of this year I started receiving calls and letters from Matrix Acceptance, a collection agency, saying that I owed almost $75 for "failing to adequatly reslove my account with L.W.E." I spoke with a woman at Matrix Acceptance, and I asked her, "How do I resolve this? I signed a ONE year contract." She told me that it had been renewed, but if I send a letter rquesting my account to be closed, along with the payment to the Roy, Utah address, my account would be closed. So I did just that. I sent a letter requesting my account to be cancelled.

Then in March of this year, I started receiving calls and letters from Matrix Acceptance one again! This time they said that I owed $60 for the same thing, failing to resolve my account with L.W.E. The letter went on to say, "In addition, you may also be referred to an attorney where you may be required to pay legal fees, court costs, and additional collection fees to properly resolve this account"

The letter included a phone number to call them at, in order to resolve the situation. I tried calling them at the number that they provided me in the letter, 1-800-574-7234. I tried calling that number about ten times, and each time I called it, I would get disconnected.

So I sent my payment, along with a very strongly worded letter, where I told them exactly what had happened, and that I tried to call their phone number, only to get disconnected, and if they did not close and cancel my account now, that they would be hearing from MY attorney who would be investigating them for fraudulent collection practices, and that all contact with me from here on in, would be recorded, and that I was going to report them to the BBB, and that I want to be notified in writting of when my account has been cancelled and closed.

I sent that in March. It is now June 9, and I have yet to recieve any letter informing me that my account has been closed.in fact, I have not heard anything from them concerning my account in any way, shape or form. And if I never hear from them again for the rest of my life, then that would be great.
