Refusal to give customer copy of contact lens prescription after exam

Following a thorough exam for contact lens at a local NYC Cohens Fashion Optical store, I was informed both by doctor and manager of the store that I would be unable to get a copy of the contact lens prescription until I purchased my boxes of lenses through them. I paid for my exam but was only given receipt. Next day I visited the Cohens website for contact information to corporate (no info whatsoever) and saw on their website some suggestion of consumer rights: "If you choose to see a doctor outside of Cohen's, you will need to ask your eye care provider for a copy of your contact lens prescription." When I called Cohens, pointed out the language on the website and asked the doctor for a copy of my contact lens prescription to order elsewhere, she insisted, "If I feel I haven't finalized the exam - I don't have to give it to you." When challenged that the fit of the lens was good, that I was satisified and found a better price per Proclear elsewhere, she refused to share the prescription.
