Problem going on over a year - All

Furniture & Equipment

My daughter and her husband purchased a living room suite from Target and partially paid for it with gift cards they received for their wedding. Twice the coffee table came broken in exactly the same place. The store told them they could not return it to the store and gave them number to contact. When they tried to return the second one, they were told that they couldn't for some reason. Katie tried periodically to remedy the situation with no results. This June as we were preparing the nursery for the baby she is expecting, she was stressed about what to do about the box with the useless coffee table. It would cost her $25 to have it put in the landfill. I called Target and was put on hold for 45 minutes. I then talked to someone who gave me another number to call. After giving the next young man I talked to all the information, he agreed to have the item picked up and give my daughter a gift card so she could purchase things for the baby. Three weeks later, the item was not picked up and I was back on the phone. After spending an entire morning on hold and talking to various people, I was told that there was no record of my call and the remedy I was promised. Having run out of time, I called the next day and was given the run around again. I did, however, find out that day that Target.com is not affiliated with Target stores!!! I was told that they are a subsidiary. Now, I hold a Master degree, and still I can not understand how on earth a company that is promoted by Target and has the same name is not an affliate! Moreover, I can't figure out why Target will not stand behind their name. So, we gave up on ever getting the money spent and the coffee table sat in a box on my carport until the day that my daughter and I went to Target to TRY to exchange some duplicate items she had been given at baby showers. We did this with dread in our hearts. To our surprise and relief, it was an easy experience. AND we were told by the customer service personnel that we could bring the coffee table back and receive a refund. Needless to say, we tried to argue with her, but she assured us it would be no problem. Today, with faith restored in Target, I loaded up the table, took it to my son-in-law, and he took it to Target. You know the end to the story. They did not take back the table. They told him that all record of the purchase and the debit cards with which it had been purchased had been purged when Target switched to a new system. The customer service people gave him a number to call. Last I heard an hour ago, he was still on hold.

Cheated is how we feel. Duped out money. Mislead, abused, disheartened. I will NEVER again purchase a thing from Target. I will do my best to pursuade everyone I know to boycott this horrible corporation.
