I recently had the misfortune of having a PS3 slim system stolen from me. With the help of the local police we were able to retrieve a system that seemed to be the one that I was missing. The suspect had peeled the serial number label off of the system so we were not able to compare the serial of the item I had stolen to this machine to see if they were the same. I called Sony and explained the situation, they refused to help. They said that they would not help me find the serial number and the only way they'd consider helping at all was to have the police contact them. The officer contacted them and they made him fill out a bunch of paperwork and wait 3 weeks, still haven't heard back.
