Seagate Seagate FreeAgent Go External Hard drive through BeachCamera.com from Buy.com

I purchased 2 Seagate FreeAgent Go, 320 GB drives from BeachCamera.com through the Buy.com site and I strongly advised anyone from buying this product or from any of these companies. I received and registered on 5/6 and downloaded everything from my laptop on the external hard drive. The intend was to use it to organize my laptop files and then reorganize my laptop. On 5/14, I also downloaded all my family's previous years' vacation and other photos onto the drive. All of a sudden, the drive just stopped working and I can't see it on the My Computer. I contacted BeachCamera.com via email only to be told there's nothing they can do and to contact Seagate. I went on to Seagate.com and spent a few hours researching and trouble-shooting, but to no avail. The last page of their help was to contact a company associated with them for data recovery service. I went online to research and to my horror, this is a known problem for over 4 or 5 years and a long list of similar complaints. Yet they are still making and selling this lousy product.

My goal was to use it as a back up but now, too late, I didn't realize I needed a back up drive for my back up drive!!! I understand recovery also means hundreds and thousands of dollars, and there's no guarantee that they will be able to get it done correctly.

Judging from their lack of quality control, care, or integrity, I wouldn't want to make another mistake by going to them to get the data. Sounds like a scam! They know the drive will fail and people will be desperate so they can then make more money from you after the lousy product has failed, as illustrated time and time again!

Learn from my lesson, please don't buy anything from Seagate! They're irresponsible corporation!!!
