Doesn't honor any repair or replacement warranty, located in

I received the camera on X-mas as a gift, and out of the package it did not work or power up. I called the retailer at which the camera was sold, and they told me I must contact the manufacturer. Once I contacted the manufacturer, they informed me that they didn't make the camera anymore, and because the camera was a gift, that they had no liability concerning repairs or replacement. They stated they do not have a comparable camera to provide me, and told me that i was not there customer, that there customer was the retailer to which they sold the camera. They told me all this despite the fact that the camera's manual clearly states "If you have a problem, DO NOTRETURN THIS CAMERA TO THE RETAILER."

The customer service rep and well as another employee named Erin Doty, denied all responsibility for the defective nature of the product. Then proceeded to tell me theydidn't make the camera anymore, so they were sure the warranty expired, but to my understanding, a product is warrantied by a manufacturer and not the retailer.
