Shipping and Tax Ripoff

I placed an order yesterday, and today I recieved the confirmation email. I ordered 12 transistors, which costed altogether $3.3. I thought it would be cheap, but they charged $0.58 for tax! That's 18% sales tax! I don't even think that that's legal here in the US.

I live in Virginia, and for them to ship a 0.3 pound package from Texas to Virginia costed me $9.14. That's insane! I ended up having to pay another $5 for handling, and it costed me $18.02 for the order, when the parts only costed $3.3! Never buying again. The site may look professional and cheap, but they really get their money from the shipping.
