Misrepresented HPDVD Writer 100J...

Sent a support inquiry as to why the HP DVD Writer I purchased did not copy to any DVD Media that was used. The response I received from HP support was that there DVD Burner did not write to any DVD recording Media but only played. It will record to CD Media. Here is the response of HP to the inquiry. I want to warn the consumers NOT to purchase any DVD Writers from HP.

I understand from what you have indicated below that the hp dvd writer 100J does not write dvd. This appears to me as false advertisement on the part of HP you have sold merchandise that misleads a consumer into it's capabilities. It actually is only a CD writer.

I will be doing two things taking your unit out of my computer and taking this communication and broadcasting it over the internet in as many consumer sites as I can find and warning the public. Very disappointing!!!

From: "HP DVD RW E-mail Support" Dear,

DVD-RW and/or DVD-R media is not compatible with the HP DVD Writers for
recording purposes. However, a prerecorded DVD-RW or DVD-R may be readable in the HP DVD Writers.

The tables below list the compatibility of DVD and CD media with the HP
DVD100i drive.

DVD Media:

|Media |DVD100 Compatible |

|DVD RW |Read - Yes |
| (DVD plus RW) |Write - Yes |

|DVD R |Read - Yes |
| (DVD plus R) |Write - No |

|DVD-RW |Read - Yes (usually)|
| (DVD minus RW)|Write - No |

|DVD-R |Read - Yes (usually)|
| (DVD minus R) |Write - No |

|DVD-RAM |Read - No |
| |Write - No |

|DVD-ROM |Read - Yes |
| |Write - No |

CD Media:

|Media |DVD100 Compatible|

|CD-R |Read - Yes |
| |Write - Yes |

|CD-RW |Read - Yes |
| |Write - Yes |

|CD-ROM |Read - Yes |
| |Write - No |

The HP DVD100i drive will also read the following types of media:

* CD-Digital Audio (Red Book) and CD Extra
* CD-ROM (Mode 1 - Yellow Book)
* CD-ROM XA and CD-I (Mode 2/Form 1 - Green Book)
* CD-ROM XA and CD-I (Mode 2/Form 2 - Green Book)
* CD-Bridge and Photo-CD (single and multi-session)
* CD-Video
* DVD-Video

Media that is manufactured to meet the DVD RW standard should work.
However, HP has only fully tested and qualified the HP brand media. HP
recommends using HP media when contacting HP support.

It is important to us that we answer your question. If you need
further assistance, please reply to this message, we will be happy to
help you.

Sincerely,
Shailesh
